My father converted to Judaism when I was a young child. As the patriarch, his decision dictated our family life in a way that was all-encompassing and unquestionable. This ultimately shaped my perceptions of masculinity and power as self-invention through enlightenment, even if this entails isolation from the outside world or from my own ancestral history.
